Today we took Jack to a historic farm for their annual maple tree tapping. When I was a little girl my father tapped the maples trees in the woods were we lived. I always remember being so excited to go outside and look in our pails to see how much sap we had collected. I thought this would be fun to do with Jack, even though he is so young.
It was like taking a step back in time. The farm is operated just as it would have been in 1890. Even the farm hands are dressed in period clothing.
Jack loved, loved, loved the farm animals. The hens and the oxen were among his favorites. He mostly stomped around mud puddles in his wellies. He even happened to take a dive into one. I wish I could share the pics (still have that camera issue).
He rode home in his diaper because he was so muddy. Thank goodness it was such a warm day. He was a little boy in his glory. We had so much fun experiencing it through his eyes.
It was a nice break from our normal routines. Life seemed so much less complicated back then. It was a great reminder of my need to simplify and focus on what's truly important.
The Farmhouse where they serve lunch.
Beautiful landscape.
